New Version of Simple.Powerful.Connected.(TM) Solution Delivers 3D Drawings
and Interoperability with All Major CAD Systems
NEEDHAM, Mass., April 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), a
leading provider of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today
announced the availability of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0, the newest version of
its product design and development solution. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 offers
3D drawing capability incorporated directly into the core product that is
compliant with the industry standard American Society of Mechanical Engineers
(ASME) Y14.41. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 also supports interoperability with
all the major CAD systems including UGS PLM I-DEAS(R), CATIA(R) V5 and
Unigraphics(R) NX. Additionally, this version delivers major improvements in
software usability by extending the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire User Model to sheet
metal, simulation and other areas of the solution. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0
is scheduled to ship during PTC's current fiscal quarter ended July 3, 2004.
Penske Racing, Inc., winner of three straight Indianapolis 500-mile races,
has for years used Pro/ENGINEER as its CAD standard. "With Pro/ENGINEER, we
have been able to make crucial race-week adjustments; re-designing,
manufacturing and delivering revised components to our race teams in a matter
of hours," said Tim Cindric, president of Penske Racing, Inc. "Pro/ENGINEER
Wildfire 2.0 possesses some key capabilities which will take our skill in
executing rapid product refinement to a whole new level."
3D Drawing
PTC's Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 offers 3D drawing capability as part of
its core Pro/ENGINEER solution. Prior to the availability of 3D drawing
capabilities, engineers spent large amounts of time creating and/or
interpreting drawings for use when product designs were sent to manufacturing
to be produced. Companies using this new capability reduce opportunities for
misinterpretation and improve their productivity by eliminating or decreasing
reliance on traditional 2D drawings. The new 3D drawing capability was
developed in compliance with industry standard ASME Y14.41-2003. The ASME
standard is expected to be the basis for an emerging ISO standard to be
released within the next year.
"Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 offers groundbreaking capabilities that will
dramatically improve productivity for users and their organizations," said
Brian Shepherd, senior vice president of product management. "3D drawings are
the perfect blend of the 2D and 3D worlds, allowing downstream users to
consult the product model and view all the data they need, annotated directly
on the model itself."
CAD Interoperability
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 introduces facilities for UGS PLM I-DEAS import
and associative data exchange capabilities for both the CATIA V5 and UGNX
applications, complementing the rich existing set of industry-standard formats
and direct application interfaces.
"To compete in aggressive worldwide markets, companies must continually
strive for improved efficiency and agility using open solutions that can be
configured and deployed to best meet their unique company requirements," said
Dr. Ken Versprille, CPD Associates, LLC (formerly the PLM group of D.H. Brown
Associates, Inc.). "PTC views openness as a fundamental tenet and has
consistently provided the highest levels of data interoperability. Through
its comprehensive support for international exchange standards, and its
patented associative data exchange technology, PTC delivers an industry-
leading open solution with Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0."
Adoption
The new release is built upon the award winning technology of Pro/ENGINEER
Wildfire, introduced in February 2003. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire is being adopted
at a remarkable rate. To date, more than 50 percent of customer sites have
made the move -- a result of its immediate accessibility to users of all
proficiency levels, its reliability, and its seamless data compatibility with
earlier releases of Pro/ENGINEER.
"By CAD industry expectations, Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire has been adopted very
rapidly by a large number of PTC's customers," said John MacKrell of
technology analyst firm CIMData. "This rapid acceptance of Pro/ENGINEER
Wildfire in production environments demonstrates that users recognize the
product's strength in helping improve their product development efficiency."
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 offers additional enhancements and features that
deliver improved software usability across all functional areas. Learn more
