Gateway Unveils eMachines Family of High-Value Widescreen Notebooks

eMachines is Only Major PC Brand to Offer Mobile AMD Athlon(TM) 64 Processors;
             Aggressively Priced Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Notebook,
        First Widescreen Notebook Priced Under $1,000 Also Introduced

    POWAY, Calif. and IRVINE, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway, Inc.
(NYSE: GTW) today announced its retail family of eMachines widescreen
notebooks for spring 2004, from innovative high-performance wireless systems
to the first widescreen notebook priced under $1,000.
    The eMachines line of products continues its leadership as the only major
PC brand offering the Mobile AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processor with its M6805 and
M6809 wireless widescreen notebook PCs, delivering unparalleled computing
performance and display for DVD movies, games, digital photography and other
32-bit multimedia applications.  Both notebooks also include the ATI Mobility
RADEON(TM) 9600 graphics processor.
    Featuring the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ and DVD/CD-RW combo
drive, the M6805 is priced at $1,399 after $100 mail-in rebate.  Featuring the
Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ and a multi-format DVD-RW(+/-) drive, the
M6809 is priced at $1,549 after $100 rebate.
    In addition, Gateway is introducing an eMachines wireless widescreen
notebook incorporating the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor with the M6410,
priced at $1,299 after $100 rebate, and the first widescreen notebook priced
at $999, after $100 rebate, with the M2105.
    All eMachines notebooks feature the widescreen format display with a 16:10
aspect ratio that allows up to 30 percent more DVD viewing area than a
standard 15-inch notebook screen.
    The top three retail notebooks in the spring line (M6410, M6805 and M6809)
incorporate the 54g wireless chipset from Broadcom(R), providing up to five
times the performance of 802.11b while maintaining compatibility with other
wireless devices on the market.  These notebooks also feature 512MB DDR memory
for optimum computing.

major PC brand offering 64-bit notebook computing based on the Mobile AMD

    "These notebooks offer consumers uncompromised desktop-class performance
and optimum display in a convenient mobile form factor with Gateway's premier
customer service," Fisher said.
    Featuring a stylish chassis, the eMachines family of notebooks are 1.6
inches thin, weigh 7.5 pounds and include an 8-cell lithium ion battery
offering approximately 2.5 hours of battery life, depending upon configuration
and applications used.
    With the ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 video card, the M6805 and M6809 64-bit
notebooks support Microsoft's DirectX 9.0 application programming interface,
offering cinematic visual quality for gaming and other graphics-intensive
applications.
    Both 64-bit systems feature HyperTransport(TM) technology, designed to
increase bandwidth and reduce bottlenecks for faster processing speed and
seamless multi-tasking on multiple applications.
    The 64-bit notebooks also feature a '6-in-1 Media Reader' for quick
downloading, editing and sharing of digital, audio and video images.  The
media reader supports Compact Flash, Micro Drive, MultiMedia Card, Secure
Digital, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro storage formats.
    Featuring the Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor, the M6410 wireless
widescreen notebook includes integrated Intel Extreme(TM) Graphics 3D,
DVD/CDRW combo drive, 60GB hard drive storage and 10/100 Mbps built-in
Ethernet in addition to 802.11g built-in wireless.
    The M2105 widescreen notebook features the Intel Celeron(R) 2.8 GHz
processor with 256MB DDR memory, 40GB hard drive and 10/100 Mbps built-in
Ethernet.
    All notebooks feature the Microsoft Windows(R) XP Home Edition operating
system, Microsoft Works 7.0, Microsoft Money 2004, Encarta Online, Adobe
Acrobat(R) Reader(TM), Cyberlink Power DVD, Microsoft Media Player, Real
Player, Cyberlink Power DVD 5.0, and three-month AOL membership.
Picture It! (TM), Microsoft's award-winning digital image editing software, is
available on the M6809.
    Norton AntiVirus 2004 comes pre-installed on all eMachines notebooks,
providing protection from all previously released computer viruses.  Within
the 90-day complimentary subscription period, users can choose to subscribe to
anti-virus updates from Symantec for protection from future viruses.
    Gateway supports its entire eMachines notebook line with a comprehensive
Customer Care program comprised of one-year parts, labor and technical support
with several service options, including an End-User Replaceable Parts Program
and five-day depot repair.
    eMachines notebook PCs come with two- and three-year extended service
plans with screen protection.  The two-year plan costs $109 and the three-year
plan costs $189.  Either plan may be purchased within 90 days of the original
notebook purchase date.
