today announced Charlene A. Friedman has been named Vice President and General
Counsel. In this newly created position, Ms. Friedman will be responsible for
all legal matters affecting the company and will oversee Aviron's internal

Throughout her nearly 18 year legal career, Ms. Friedman has served as
both a corporate attorney and a litigator. She joins Aviron from Collagen

Officer.
Ms. Friedman earned her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law
and graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University.

Actual results may differ materially from the forward-looking statements
contained in this release. Factors that could cause actual results to differ
include, but are not limited to, failure to validate the manufacturing

applications for its nasal influenza vaccine are incomplete or inadequate to
approve the product for marketing to one or more target populations.
