CUPERTINO, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trend Micro
Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet content security,
announced today that its CEO and co-founder Eva Chen was recently named one
of the Top 100 Most Influential People in IT by the editors of eWeek, CIO
Insight and Baseline magazines, all published by Ziff Davis.
To come up with the 2008 list, the editors of Ziff Davis "looked for
people who not only had a tangible track record of IT success, but also
have far-reaching influence, the ability to effect change and a deep level
of engagement in developing emerging technologies." The last criteria,
according to the editors, was especially important because it includes
people who are on the leading edge of technology development -- those who
not only shape the products we use, but how people work.
"Under [Eva] Chen's leadership, Trend Micro continues to engineer
security software that outperforms the competition's," said the editors.
Since Trend Micro's inception in 1988, Eva has helped develop products,
technology and strategies that have shaped the security landscape. These
include: the migration from desktop security to comprehensive network
protection; the industry's first centralized antivirus solutions for
gateways, email systems, and file servers; innovations in automatic virus
detection and virus removal.
During the past few years, an underground malware industry has carved
itself a thriving market by exploiting the trust and confidence of Web
users. Thousands of malicious Web pages are discovered on a daily basis as
cybercriminals hijack legitimate Web sites with malware, or redirect
unsuspecting users to third-party sites that contain malware.
In response, Eva led the development of Trend Micro's Web Threat
Protection -- comprehensive, coordinated security technology in areas where
Web threats can most effectively be stopped -- in the cloud, at the gateway
and on the endpoint. Most recently, Trend Micro announced its new Web
Protection Add-On tool that proactively intercepts malicious threats at the
earliest possible point of infection, thus reducing dependence upon
conventional pattern file downloads.
Eva (#29) was ranked alongside Apple's Steve Jobs, Microsoft's Steve
Ballmer, Oracle's Larry Ellison, Google's Larry Page & Sergey Brin, Venture
capitalist John Doerr and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. A complete list
