David M. Westfall, Ronald L. Adams Named to New Posts At Consolidated Natural Gas Company

    PITTSBURGH, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Directors of Consolidated Natural Gas
Company have elected David M. Westfall to the new post of senior vice
president, non-regulated business and chief financial officer, effective
May 1.
    Mr. Westfall, 50, is currently senior vice president and chief financial
officer.  In his new post, he will be in charge of the company's exploration
and production, energy marketing services and international businesses, as
well as continuing his current duties as CFO.
    At the same time, the Board elected Ronald L. Adams to the new post of
senior vice president, regulated business.  Mr. Adams, 38, is currently
president of CNG Transmission Corporation, Consolidated's interstate gas
transmission subsidiary.  As senior vice president of the parent company, he
will have CNG's four gas utility companies, CNG Transmission and the company's
regulated business support group reporting to him.  He will continue as
president of CNG Transmission until a successor is named.
    Mr. Adams will become a member of the company's executive office, joining
Mr. Westfall, Stephen E. Williams, senior vice president and general counsel,
and George A. Davidson, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer.  Both Mr.
Westfall and Mr. Adams will continue to report to Mr. Davidson.
    "As CNG moves forward with its plans to increase shareholder value by
growing both its non-regulated and its regulated operations, it will be
especially advantageous to me to have two strong executives at headquarters
dividing direct responsibility for our operating units," said Mr. Davidson.
He said that he hopes to have a successor to Mr. Adams in place later this
year and that an internal and external search will be conducted.
    Mr. Westfall has been CNG's chief financial officer since December 1995.
He began his CNG career in 1969 when he joined CNG Transmission as an
accountant.  He progressed through a number of posts in the tax, finance and
rate sections of the unit, becoming its treasurer in 1985 and a senior vice
president in 1988.  He moved to the parent company as senior vice president,
financial in January 1995.  He is a graduate of Fairmont State College and has
completed the executive management course at Stanford University.
    Mr. Adams became president of CNG Transmission in July 1996.  Prior to
joining CNG Transmission, he was vice president of operations and engineering
at Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation in Houston, Texas.  He began his
career as an engineer with Transco in 1982.  He is a graduate of Texas A&M
University.
