Live, Interactive, Online Chat Kicks Off First of a Kind Fundraiser
NORTHBROOK, Ill., April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At seven o'clock
Friday night Eastern Daylight Time April 19th teens from around the country
will log onto AOL for a live, online, interactive discussion on youth violence
featuring R&B pop sensation 3LW, Columbine survivor Matt Varney, and youth
violence expert LaVerna Fountain. "The chat, entitled Beyond Columbine, will
be an opportunity for teens across the country to voice their opinions on
youth violence in their homes, schools, and communities; learn firsthand about
the Columbine tragedy; and talk to celebrities who care about and are affected
by the issue," said Sarah Ingersoll, Executive Director of the National
Campaign Against Youth Violence (NCAYV).
In addition to providing a forum for American teens to voice their
opinions on the issue of youth violence, Beyond Columbine also kicks off the
Just One Click campaign -- a program of YouthNOISE and NCAYV, sponsored by
Allstate. Just One Click invites teens to log onto http://www.youthnoise.com and
click the Just One Click Button. For every click, up to 200,000, Allstate
Insurance Company will donate five cents to the National Campaign Against
Youth Violence. "Allstate works to foster safe and vital communities by
supporting programs that promote tolerance, inclusion and diversity and
economic empowerment," said Allstate Chairman, President, and CEO Ed Liddy.
"Beyond Columbine and the Just One Click program provide a forum for young
Americans to address the issues they are facing as a generation. Allstate
hopes they will harness the power of technology and community to help stem the
tide of youth violence."
Just One Click organizers hope to receive the 200,000 clicks between now
and June 11th. Money from Just One Click will help fund 15 selected youth
violence prevention organizations working with the National Campaign Against
Youth Violence. "NCAYV searched for a diverse mix of communities that possess
different violence prevention strategies," Ingersol said, "Over 130 community
organizations applied and 15 were selected, based on various criteria. The
main requirement was that the program had to focus a collaborative approach to
the prevention of youth violence."
The following are the selected community organizations:
-- Atwood Community Center-Madison, WI
-- Kids First of Ravalli County-Ravalli County, MT
-- Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater LA, CA
-- Center for Court Innovation-Brooklyn, NY
-- East Capitol Center for Change-Washington, DC

promoting tolerance, and service and volunteerism.
