Volunteers Needed...Georgia UPS Employees Answer the Call

ATLANTA, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A year ago at the Presidents' Summit for
America's Future, the call went out across the country to increase the number
of volunteers and volunteer hours devoted to youth. A year later, many
companies, organizations and people have answered the call.
Two examples of outstanding volunteers in Georgia are Vicki Noethling and
Norman Carmichael, UPS employees in Atlanta.

-- Noethling is the co-chairperson of the Management Information
Systems committee for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.
She is currently working on a strategic plan for introducing
computer systems to the clubs throughout the city.
-- Noethling has been active in Habitat for Humanity and Christmas in
April projects. Both projects are supported through Neighbor to
       Neighbor, UPS's company-wide volunteerism program.
-- The Boys and Girls Club and Noethling's administrative assistant at
UPS nominated her for the American Hero award for outstanding local
volunteers. She won the award and, as a result, was chosen as a
torchbearer and Olympic volunteer during the 1996 Summer Olympic
       Games in Atlanta.
-- Carmichael became a part of Black Executive Exchange Program
(BEEP), a project of the National Urban League, through UPS. BEEP
recruits African-American managers to visit historically black
colleges and universities and conduct workshops with students on
transitioning from school to the workplace. This year, Carmichael
       is conducting four seminars.
-- Through involvement with Junior Achievement, Carmichael recently
taught a leadership class to high school students and organized a
day of job shadowing at UPS for high school students.
-- He is currently serving with the local chapter of 100 Black Men of
America and serving on the mentoring committee for the national
       chapter.

Please call the listed contacts if you are interested in speaking with
Noethling or Carmichael or hearing about UPS' Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program,
which matches employees willing to volunteer with local agencies. Also
available is information on the results of a national survey on volunteerism
sponsored by The UPS Foundation.
