NEW YORK, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York New Media Association
(NYNMA) will once again host Venture Downtown '99, a showcase of the most
promising New York new media and technology companies. At this full-day
venture capital conference on May 11, 26 media entrepreneurs from the
metropolitan New York area will present their firms to leading venture
capitalists, investment bankers and corporate partners from the East and West
coasts. Angel investors will also see a track of early-stage companies.
According to Brian Horey, board member of NYNMA, "Roughly $1 billion has
been invested in New York area digital companies in approximately the past
three years, and the current market value of New York-area new media companies
that have gone public in the same period is roughly $15 billion." With 26
new media and technology companies presenting, and some 300 investors already
pre-registered, Venture Downtown '99 is set to be the breeding ground for New
York new media's "next big thing."
"Venture Downtown '99 brings together investors with new media and
technology companies that have shown great potential," said Alice Rodd
O'Rourke, executive director of NYNMA. "With so many of our previous
presenting companies having raised significant venture capital funding and
then going public, Venture Downtown could be the launching pad for next year's
big IPOs."
Previous Venture Downtown conferences have featured Silicon Alley success
stories that have filed for an IPO, gone public or been acquired in the past
year. These include iVillage, Agency.com, MiningCo.com, EarthWeb, Medscape,
SiteSpecific, Yoyodyne and theglobe.com.
