Consolidated Natural Gas Issues Statement

    PITTSBURGH, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to a commentary today by a
financial analyst, Consolidated Natural Gas Company (NYSE: CNG) said it has
not expressed any opinions for or against a proposal received April 18 from
Columbia Energy Group.  As was said previously, CNG is reviewing the Columbia
proposal.
    It should be noted that CNG has a definitive merger agreement with
Dominion Resources, Inc.
