Powertrain Developers to Jump Start Projects Months Prior to Silicon
               Availability with CodeWarrior Development Studio

SAN FRANCISCO, April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
CONFERENCE -- In response to customer demands to quickly and cost-effectively
leverage the emerging embedded platforms in the Powertrain segment of the
transportation industry, Metrowerks has created CodeWarrior(TM) Development
Studio for MPC5500 Family, Simulator Edition. The release of this
comprehensive tool chain months prior to availability of the MPC5500 embedded
controller from Motorola (NYSE: MOT) is expected to decrease development time.
Integration of industry leading technologies allows developers to work at
top efficiency without switching between various application windows. The
CodeWarrior Development Studio provides tightly integrated multi-core
simulator, C compilers for the e500 and eTPU, a multi-core debugger and set of
profiling tools. The tool suite also includes plug-ins for integration with
existing development process, such as Configuration Management Systems
(ClearCase, SourceSafe and others) and Motor Industry Software Reliability
Association (MISRA) compliance checking using PC-LINT.
"Having worked closely with Powertrain customers on their next generation
tools requirements, we recognize the need for early availability of a
comprehensive tool chain," said Michael O'Donnell, automotive industry
manager, Metrowerks. "We know there is no time for piecemeal combinations of
compilers and debuggers, or for juggling multiple vendors whose products don't
integrate. That's why Metrowerks has delivered an integrated tool chain ahead
of silicon, so Powertrain customers can begin development for the MPC5500
today."
    Motorola's MPC5500 32-Bit Embedded Controllers combines a high performance
32-bit RISC core with an integrated set of peripherals, embedded FLASH memory,
and more for a more cost-effective, off-the-shelf solution. Motorola's
portfolio of high-performance embedded controllers is ideally suited for a
wide range of automotive and industrial applications -- especially those
requiring control intensive capabilities.

    Availability
CodeWarrior Development Studio for MPC5500 Family, Simulator Edition, is
available immediately from Metrowerks. Demonstrations of the CodeWarrior
Development Studio for MPC5500 Family, Simulator Edition, are available at the
Metrowerks Transportation products exhibit at ESC West within the Motorola
booth, #1302.
