Dramatic Acceleration of Design Wins and Increasing Partnership Momentum
Continues to Validate Company's Strategy
SAN FRANCISCO and PITTSBURGH, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems
Conference -- TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in Embedded Linux(R) and
Java(TM) development solutions, announced today that the growth of design wins
for its embedded Linux and Java development products accelerated dramatically
during the first three months of 2003, building on the momentum of an upward
trend that began in mid-2002. Additionally, the company made significant
progress in making off-the-shelf embedded Linux and Java available for the
embedded development marketplace by expanding its product line and increasing
the number and type of key strategic partnerships with system vendors and
value-added resellers.
"The accelerated growth in the number of design wins and new partnerships
last quarter is due to the product focus that TimeSys has taken to the
marketplace," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman. "Hardware manufacturers and
OEMs in the embedded industry understand the value that TimeSys Linux SDKs
provide as the most complete, most capable, off-the-shelf embedded development
platform for any range of application. They realize that design engineers can
get started faster and develop more robust systems with TimeSys' ready-to-run
embedded Linux SDKs and RTOS, development tools and real-time JVM than they
can with other embedded products."
The embedded development marketplace needs ready-to-run embedded
development tools and TimeSys' product focus for embedded Linux and Java is
making that available today. TimeSys' embedded Linux and Java products are
increasingly being adopted across multiple industries for a range of
applications. TimeSys' Linux and Java SDKs are being employed in the
development of products ranging from high-end telecommunications
infrastructure equipment such as layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switches, consumer
electronics devices such as MPEG4 digital network cameras, automotive
informatics applications such as in-car navigation, industrial control
applications including power generation turbine control and automated food
processing equipment, and military/aero applications such as command, control
and communications systems, air traffic control systems and military robotics.
New design wins came from customers ranging from startup companies to large,
established multinational corporations such as Hitachi High-Technologies,
Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Sanyo Electric, and Toshiba.
The momentum of TimeSys' partner program has also increased, attributed to
the company's product focus for making embedded Linux and Java available.
TimeSys' microprocessor and embedded hardware vendor partners are able to
deliver a ready-to-run, working embedded Linux software development kit that
features TimeSys Linux and TimeSys' tightly integrated commercial-quality
development, modeling and event tracing tools. TimeSys was chosen as the
embedded Linux partner for system vendor companies SuperH, Themis Computers,
Artysen, and ITE, broadening the reach of TimeSys product delivery on embedded
hardware. Further, TimeSys increased its availability through distribution
partnerships with value-added-resellers Omnisoft, Amirix, Martan, and
Integrys. OEM customers of TimeSys' system vendor partners and VARs from
receiving a complete hardware/software product that reduces development risk,
time to market, and total cost of ownership for their embedded systems.
To continue its focus on providing a complete range of runtime and
development products, TimeSys has introduced three new products to the market
in the first quarter of 2003:
TimeSys Linux 4.0
TimeSys Linux 4.0, the latest upgrade to TimeSys' flagship embedded Linux
distribution, was released in mid-February, bringing TimeSys Linux in line
with the 2.4.18 Linux kernel and adding numerous high-availability and carrier
grade Linux features to the industry's lowest-latency Linux kernel.
TimeStorm 2.0
The launch of TimeSys Linux 4.0 was accompanied by TimeStorm 2.0, TimeSys'
significantly enhanced integrated development environment for C/C++/Java
development for embedded Linux. TimeStorm 2.0 is powered by Eclipse
Technology and is available tightly integrated with TimeSys Linux SDKs or as a
standalone IDE for embedded Linux development on either Linux or Windows
development hosts.
JTime for Java
TimeSys also introduced its much-anticipated JTime for Java, the
industry's first Sun-certified Real-Time Specification for Java-compliant
(RTSJ) Java Virtual Machine (JVM). JTime is the first JVM to offer completely
predictable, reliable response to Java applications, enabling embedded and
real-time developers to benefit from the advantages of Java development while
ensuring completely predictable response in their embedded applications.
JTime is already being used in such applications as power generation control,
telecommunications switching, and advanced high-end server technologies.
Other key Q1 milestones include:
-- E-Commerce capabilities - TimeSys is the first embedded Linux vendor to
offer a complete embedded Linux SDK for online purchase, including a
full Linux distribution, GNU tools, root filesystem and more.
Developers can purchase a TimeSys Linux SDK for x86 platforms directly
from TimeSys' Web site, http://www.timesys.com, and begin developing
applications the same day.
-- Growth of SDK availability - TimeSys has continued to develop and
deliver complete software development kits for a variety of processor
architectures and embedded single board computers. TimeSys now offers
more than sixty-five complete TimeSys Linux SDKs; a 300% growth over
last year's SDK offering.
TimeSys will be demonstrating a number of these products and customer
applications of their technology within their booth (#512) at the Embedded
Systems Conference in San Francisco's Moscone Center this week.
