The State of Black Philadelphia: Issues of Importance to Philadelphians in the Pennsylvania Presidential Primary

PHILADELPHIA, April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In efforts to discuss
the issues that affect many African American Philadelphians today, the
Urban League of Philadelphia recently released The State of Black
Philadelphia Report.

The State of Black Philadelphia features compelling research, data and
a weighted analysis that examines persistent disparities between black and
white Philadelphians in five critical areas: economics, health, education,
civic engagement and social justice. In addition to the data and research
compiled by ULP, along with international research and economics firm
Global Insight, the report provides the reader with a series of provocative
essays written by some of Philadelphia's finest minds, all of whom offer a
myriad of recommendations to close the equality gaps that exist some 43
years after the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The timely release of The State of Black Philadelphia will inform,
engage and motivate all Philadelphians to play a more proactive role in
improving Philadelphia for all its citizens, irrespective of race,
ethnicity, religion and socioeconomic level. As eloquently articulated by
Dr. Martin Luther King in his provocative letter from a Birmingham Jail,
"We are caught in an inextricable network of mutuality, tied in a single
garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

The Urban League of Philadelphia (ULP) is a non-profit, nonpartisan,
civil rights and community-based movement that provides direct services,
research and policy advocacy to help individuals and communities reach
their fullest potential. Primarily working with African-Americans and other
emerging ethnic communities, the ULP is an affiliate of the National Urban
League. The National Urban League serves over 800,000 people through
professionally staffed affiliates located in 100+ urban areas across the
U.S., working to close equality gaps for people at all economic levels and
stages of life, and giving residents a chance to give back as volunteers.
