SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine, April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National
Semiconductor Corporation, through its charitable foundation, is pledging
$15,000 to the Red Cross through WGME's Flood Aid telethon benefiting those
affected by last week's Nor'easter storm.
"The Red Cross is an important part of the Portland community, and we
want to help with its relief efforts," said Paul Edmonds, National
Semiconductor's South Portland Vice President of Operations. "Our thoughts
are with those affected by the disaster as they recover and rebuild from
the losses suffered in the storm."
National Semiconductor employs 525 at its manufacturing site in South
Portland. Many of the company's employees, who travel from 100 different
Maine and New Hampshire cities and towns, were affected by the Nor'easter
on Monday, April 16. Although National's plant, which operates 24 hours a
day, experienced loss of emergency power and was flooded, its manufacturing
operations continued.
In addition, National hosted the State Police, who were displaced from
their offices due to emergency power outages during the storm. Officers
from the Gray and Crosby Hill barracks used National's conference facility
as a substation to keep their communications open throughout the day.
National is proud to participate as an active member of the community,
both during and after events that affect the state and its residents. The
company, and its employees, has provided relief during disasters including
Hurricane Katrina, recent floods in Malaysia and the massive tsunami in
Asia.
