LOS ANGELES, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Streaming Media West -- Surgient
Networks, the industry's first "real-world" open platform for rich media and
other I/O-intensive applications, today announced that it has received
approval to distribute Microsoft's Windows Media streaming application on
Surgient's eQ2500(TM) product platform.
Pending the successful completion of Microsoft's rigorous testing
procedures, Surgient may now begin to sell and distribute Microsoft Windows
Media licenses on its eQ2500 platform and offer the application to customers.
Surgient will demonstrate its Microsoft Windows Media and RealNetworks(R)
capabilities at Streaming Media West, April 24 to 26, 2002 at the Los Angeles
Convention Center in Los Angeles, Ca., in booth #332.
In addition, Surgient announced that it plans to un-bundle the feature-
rich set of applications from its eQ2500 streaming platform sometime this
summer and will offer special combinations of applications based on the
customers immediate service needs and budget.
"Microsoft Windows Media expands Surgient's rich media applications to
include a full spectrum of industry leading formats," said Nagi Rao, President
and CEO of Surgient Networks. "We see this as a tremendous vote of confidence
from Microsoft and a recognition of the proven performance and reliability of
our eQ2500 streaming platform."
Surgient now hosts the most powerful streaming platform on the market
today with the ability to serve some 16,000 on-demand streams and some
14,000 live streams from a single, 3.5"(2U) hardware platform. Surgient's
streaming platform has set new industry benchmarks for stream set-up time
(under six seconds), overload protection, a guaranteed level of streaming
quality, and an e-Utility feature that enables customers to more easily
monetize all types of content delivery.
