LONDON, April 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- High cash generation,
significantly increased operational efficiencies, defensive and growth
qualities are all key themes in today's presentation to investors on three of
United Business Media (UBM)'s professional media businesses.
Charles Gregson, an Executive Director at UBM and also CEO of United
Advertising Publications (UAP), leads the presentations. He said:
"These businesses are United's dark horses. Together they generated
39m pounds sterling or over 60% of our profit in 2002, an increase of over 30%
on 2001, with cash conversion of over 100%. UAP and CMPi are resilient
businesses which in 2002 benefited from a step change in their operational
efficiency and continue to make further improvements and to launch new
products in 2003. CMP Asia has a strong track record of success and operates
in geographies and sectors with attractive long term growth prospects -- UBM
continues to invest in further expansion."
The Businesses:
United Advertising Publications (UAP) is UBM's UK specialist publications
business, it serves a diverse range of trading markets and focuses on
advertisements rather than editorial. Major titles include 'Exchange & Mart',
'Daltons Weekly' and 'Auto Exchange'. Every one of its titles recorded an
increase in profit in 2002, despite a general decline in the advertising
market. Its two principal titles, 'Exchange & Mart' and 'Dalton's Weekly'
both achieved increased circulation and market share. New products in 2003
include the development of 'Exchange & Mart TV' and the 'Dalton's Holidays'
website.
CMP Information is the UK headquartered professional media division, it
operates in the UK, US and Europe and delivers integrated media solutions
across key market sectors including healthcare, property and entertainment.
Its major brands include 'Pulse', 'Travel Trade Gazette', 'Music Week',
'Guitar Player', 'International Confex' and 'ACPO'. New products in 2003
include 'FiSH', the Food and Hygene exhibition and the 'Audiotrax'.
In addition to these organic initiatives CMP Information is also expanding
its business by acquisition. This week it significantly strengthened its
presence in the UK construction market by buying out its JV partner to become
the 100 per cent owner of Property Media Limited. Property Media owns
'Property Week' and five market leading events. CMPi now covers a wide
spectrum within the property and building market; titles include 'Building
Design,' "What's New in Building,' 'Glass Age,' 'Tile UK' and 'Intra.'
CMP Asia is one of the leading fair organisers in Asia with over 70
international trade fairs throughout Asia and in the USA. It is too early to
assess the impact of SARS on business in 2003. CMP Asia operates in 12 market
sectors and attracted over 17,000 exhibitors and over 1,000,000 visitors in
2002. Following the acquisition and integration of the leading Japanese
business KSS, CMP Asia strengthened its base for growth and has an extensive
programme of new products with nine launches in 2002. Its market leading
products include; 'Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair,''Asia Pacific Leather
Fair,' 'Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention,''Furniture China,' and 'Cosmoprof
Asia.'
