Announcements at Embedded Systems Conference Demonstrate the Company's
Embedded Semiconductor Leadership and Differentiation
SAN FRANCISCO, April 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
CONFERENCE -- The Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) at
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) came to this year's Embedded Systems Conference
(ESC) with a set of announcements that should charge up its customers and draw
attention to the increasingly innovative solutions it brings to the
semiconductor industry.
In four separate announcements, SPS showcased its breakthrough technology,
how its products are built for the needs of the design community and how its
direct-contact design support makes a difference in end products ranging from
luxury cars to web-surfing mobile phones.
Breakthrough Technology
On Wednesday, April 23, the company's Innovative Convergence(TM) platform
for 2G and 2.5G advanced wireless handsets proved once again that it is
gaining traction when it announced that EASTERN Telecom Co., Ltd. had signed
on as the 13th Innovative Convergence customer.
"The Innovative Convergence platform provides us with a comprehensive set
of tools and world class reference designs to enable us to help reduce our
customers' development costs and time to market," said Chris Chung, president
and chief executive officer of EASTERN Telecom.

Meeting the Needs of the Design Community
SPS delivered on its commitments to designers made at the Microsoft
Developer Conference last year when it showcased Windows CE .NET 4.1 and a
beta version of Windows CE.NET 4.2 powered by Motorola's i.MX applications
processor.
i.MX offers developers a rich array of integrated multimedia and
communications features, requiring significantly less development time to
prototype and manufacture devices such as next-generation PDAs, smartphones
and personal digital entertainment.

In a separate announcement, a new, low-cost demonstration board and
complementary CodeWarrior(TM) Development Studio software to support 56F800 30
MIPS devices was unveiled. These tools can save companies significant up
front costs and time, making it easier for developers to buy the products they
need to get the results they want faster.

Direct-contact Design Support
Many companies offer technical support for their products, but in its
CodeWarrior(TM) Development Studio for the MPC5500 Family announcement,
Motorola set itself apart by delivering a comprehensive set of design tools
months before actual silicon availability.
"Having worked closely with Powertrain customers on their next generation
tools requirements, we recognize the need for early availability of a
comprehensive tool chain," said Michael O'Donnell, automotive industry
manager, Metrowerks. "We know there is no time for piecemeal combinations of
compilers and debuggers, or for juggling multiple vendors whose products don't
integrate. That's why Metrowerks has delivered an integrated tool chain ahead
of silicon, so Powertrain customers can begin development for the MPC5500
today."

More To Come
"This set of announcements at ESC really proves that we're listening to
our customers and creating products that help them succeed. There's more to
come in 2003 -- just what you would expect from the global leader in embedded
semiconductor technology," said Ray Burgess, corporate vice president and
director of Strategy for SPS.
The company plans to make two announcements related to development tools
and its Innovative Convergence platform at Symbian Exposium03 in London next
week.
