MPC Computers Introduces the TransPort X3100 Notebook Computer

Winner of 'Best New Technology' Award at 2005 FOSE Government IT Trade Show

NAMPA, Idaho, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MPC Computers, a Gores Technology
Group company, today announced the TransPort(R) X3100 notebook computer, which
was recently awarded the Best New Technology award in the notebook category at
FOSE, the premier government IT trade show held annually in Washington, DC.
This is the second consecutive FOSE Best New Technology award for the
TransPort notebook product line.
"We are delighted that the TransPort X3100 won the Best New Technology
award at FOSE," said Paul Petersen, MPC's vice president of product marketing
and development. "For the second year in a row, MPC has been recognized as a
leader in the design and development of government-focused notebook products,
and this award reaffirms our commitment to our government customers."
The TransPort X3100 offers the latest in mobile technology and features
the new Intel 915PM chipset, which supports up to 2GB of high-speed 533MHz
DDR2 memory and significantly increases system performance. This notebook
also offers Serial ATA hard drives for higher data transfer rates, and
enhanced graphics capabilities with PCI-Express video graphics up to 256MB.
The system also includes integrated Bluetooth technology for personal wireless
connectivity.
Furthermore, the X3100 provides legacy port and bay support for government
users. In order to support existing peripherals, the notebook features legacy
ports including Parallel, Serial and PS2 connections. Additionally, the X3100
notebook integrates a hard drive, floppy drive and optical drive in the
chassis so that users can access all three bays simultaneously without
swapping modules -- a feature that government customers have indicated they
will need at least through 2005.
For added security, the TransPort X3100 includes an integrated biometric
fingerprint scanner and Smart Card Reader (Common Access Card). When enabled,
the biometric fingerprint scanner requires the user to properly scan his or
her fingerprint before being granted access to the system. This feature can
also be applied to specific files or applications on the PC, which
automatically encrypts select data files or folders to ensure that only
authorized users will be able to access their own data. Additionally,
fingerprint recognition provides the benefit of replacing all the user's
passwords in one simple scan of the finger. The integrated Smart Card Reader,
along with the additional ActivCard Gold CAC software, enables government
users to access secure hardware and data as well.
