MADISON, WI UNITED STATES
MADISON, Wis., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wisconsin Power and
Light Company (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT)
received an interim order yesterday from the Public Service Commission of
Wisconsin (PSCW) in the company's fuel-only rate case. In its order, the
PSCW granted WPL authority to increase rates for electric service on an
interim basis by $15.6 million (1.58%) annually. The rate change is
effective today and will affect virtually all retail electric customers.

WPL filed a fuel-only rate case last month because actual fuel and
purchased power costs through February of this year, combined with
projections of continued higher fuel and purchased power costs for the
remainder of 2008, significantly exceed the amounts currently recovered in
base rates.

"Fuel and purchased power costs have proven to be volatile in recent
years," said Barbara Swan, WPL President. "WPL's ability to recover these
prudent costs in a timely manner ensures fairness to customers and
shareowners alike."

The PSCW is expected to hold a public hearing regarding final rate
relief as part of its full proceedings on the fuel-only rate case prior to
issuing its final order. The interim rate increase will remain in effect
until the final order is issued. If the amount collected in interim rates
is greater than final rates, customers will receive a refund with interest.

The amount of the interim increase will vary depending on usage and
customer class. However, a typical residential customer using 600 kWh of
electricity per month will see a monthly increase of approximately 86 cents
on their electric bills.

Alliant Energy is an energy-services provider with subsidiaries serving
approximately 1 million electric and 400,000 natural gas customers.
Providing its customers in the Midwest with regulated electric and natural
gas service is the company's primary focus. Wisconsin Power and Light, the
company's Wisconsin utility subsidiary, serves approximately 450,000
electric and 175,000 natural gas customers. Alliant Energy, headquartered
in Madison, Wis., is a Fortune 1000 company traded on the New York Stock
Exchange under the symbol LNT. For more information, visit the company's
