April 26 -- Raytheon Technical Services Company (RTSC) is pleased to
announce that Dr. Ronald S. Shemenski is en route to Punta Arenas, Chile. The
Twin Otter departed Rothera, Antarctica, at approximately 11:00 a.m. EDT. The
estimated arrival time is 3:45 p.m. EDT today. Dr. Shemenski is on board and
is doing well.
Dr. Betty Carlisle, Shemenski's replacement, is at the Pole to safeguard
the well-being of our employees at the Amundsen-Scott Station, as well as the
scientists they support. Dr. Carlisle examined Dr. Shemenski at the Pole, and
granted him medical clearance to fly.
We join the United States National Science Foundation in extending our
thanks to Kenn Borek Air Ltd. for helping us to successfully complete this
airlift, as well as to the medical experts, weather forecasters, British
Antarctic Survey, Chilean government, U.S. Office of Aviation Services, and
U.S. Air Force for the roles they played in contributing to the health and
safety of Dr. Shemenski, the winter population at the Pole, and the flight
crew.

Ltd., mission pilot. Health permitting, Dr. Shemenski will also
attend and give a statement.
