Reliant Energy to Enter Delaware Electric Market

HOUSTON, April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reliant Energy, one of the
country's leading competitive power providers, has announced plans to begin
serving a broad class of commercial, industrial and institutional customers
in the Delmarva utility district in Delaware. This marks the first time
Reliant has entered the Delaware electric market.
On April 3, the Delaware Public Service Commission granted Reliant
Energy Solutions East, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliant Energy
Inc., a license to serve these customers. The company's combination of
competitive pricing, reliable service, customer support and flexible
service options brings new choices to business customers in the state.
"We are committed to bringing the benefits of competitive markets to
our customers and are pleased to be able to offer commercial and industrial
customers in Delaware new options," said Jim Ajello, senior vice president,
C&I business development. "Earlier this year, we announced plans to expand
service into at least two new markets in 2007, and this brings us one step
closer to achieving that objective."
The move builds on our extensive retail experience in ERCOT and
broadens and strengthens our existing footprint in the PJM (Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, Maryland) Interconnection. Reliant's Delaware license will
enable it to serve the vast majority of Delaware's industrial customers
representing a total market of 950 megawatts of load. Customers seeking
additional information about products and services can contact Reliant at
443-423-1813.
"Our entry into Delaware marks another value-adding proposition for
shareholders and customers alike," said Joel Staff, chairman and chief
executive officer, Reliant Energy. "We believe that as competition
continues to provide tangible benefits for customers, new markets will
continue to open across the country. Reliant will be positioned to put our
knowledge and commitment to service to work for customers in these
markets."
Reliant Energy, Inc. (NYSE: RRI) based in Houston, provides electricity
and energy services to retail and wholesale customers in the United States.
In Texas, the company provides service to nearly 1.9 million retail
electricity customers, including residential and small business customers
and commercial, industrial, governmental and institutional customers.
Reliant also serves commercial, industrial, governmental and institutional
customers in the PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland) market.
