    DEERFIELD, Ill., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- At Fort James Corporation's
(NYSE: FJ) annual meeting held today, shareholders elected 11 directors to
one-year terms expiring in 2001.

    Members who were re-elected were Miles L. Marsh, chairman and chief
executive officer of Fort James; Ernst A. Haberli, president of Fort James'
North American tissue operations and technology; Barbara L. Bowles, president
and chief executive officer of the investment management firm the Kenwood
Group, Inc.; William E. Bradford, retired chairman of Halliburton Company;
William T. Burgin, partner in Bessemer Venture Partners; James L. Burke,
president and chief executive officer of SP Newsprint Company; Worley H.
Clark, Jr., president of W.H. Clark Associates, Ltd. and retired chairman and
chief executive officer of Nalco Chemical Company; Gary P. Coughlan, chief
financial officer and senior vice president, finance of Abbott Laboratories;
William V. Daniel, retired managing director of First Union Securities, Inc.;
Robert M. O'Neil, director of The Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection
of Free Expression and former president of the University of Virginia; and
Anne Marie Whittemore, partner in the law firm of McGuire, Woods, Battle &
Boothe, LLP.  Fort James' board has 11 members, each of whom is elected to
serve annual terms.
