Snyder Oil Receives Environmental Award

FORT WORTH, Texas and DENVER, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Snyder Oil
Corporation (NYSE: SNY) ("SOCO") announced that the Utah Board of Oil, Gas and
Mining presented SOCO with a 1998 Earth Day Award for its environmental
commitment at company production sites in the state.
The Utah Board presented SOCO with a Resolution of Commendation and a
plaque during its April 22, 1998 Board meeting recognizing SOCO's "Closure and
reclamation of unlined onsite pits, dehydrator drip containment and well
monitoring" project in its Uinta Basin operations. In 1997, the Company
closed 17 open pits that were permitted and already in compliance with local,
state and federal regulations. Closing the pits eliminated the possibility of
endangering wildlife or fowl and ensured that there is no ground or ground
water contamination, thus assuring a balanced soil and nature system. SOCO
also installed a catch pan at all dehydrators to capture still column fluids
and prevent them from contacting the ground. In addition, SOCO modified its
well equipment, allowing surface casing pressures to be monitored and
identifying potential problems before they can occur.
Charles A. Brown, Senior Vice President, Rocky Mountain Region, commented,
"At SOCO one of our core values is to practice responsible stewardship. As
such we affirm our responsibility to environmentally sound operating
practices. This award recognizes the Company's environmental commitment and
reflects on our operating track record in this area."
SOCO is engaged in the production, development, acquisition, and
exploration of domestic oil and gas properties, primarily in the Gulf of
Mexico, the Rockies and northern Louisiana. The Company also has investments
in two international exploration and production companies, SOCO International
plc and Cairn Energy plc. The Company's shares are traded on the New York
Stock Exchange under the symbol "SNY". SOCO news releases and other
