Merrill Lynch Named Official Financial Advisor of Women's Sports Foundation

    WASHINGTON, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch today was named the
Official Financial Advisor to the Women's Sports Foundation, assuming a role
in which the firm will help empower and educate women athletes about the
importance of financial planning.
    The Foundation, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, is a national
nonprofit, member-based organization dedicated to increasing opportunities for
girls and women in sports and fitness through education, advocacy, recognition
and grants.
    The alliance was announced today in a speech by Merrill Lynch Vice
Chairman John L. Steffens at the Foundation's annual summit in Washington D.C.
    "As Official Financial Advisor to the Women's Sports Foundation, Merrill
Lynch will assist the Foundation by targeting financial-education programs,
charitable planning and endowment management," Mr. Steffens said.  "Further,
Merrill Lynch will help with fundraising efforts and special events that bring
together women athletes, Merrill Lynch Financial Consultants and clients, and
the general public."
    Merrill Lynch also plans to conduct a "Managing Your Resources" workshop
for Summit participants today at 1:45pm (EDT), and will participate in a
seminar on charitable planning at 2pm on April 30.  The Summit is being held
at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.
    Merrill Lynch, a strong supporter of the Women's Sports Foundation for the
past three years, is also the Official Financial Advisor to the Ladies
Professional Golf Association.  The firm has been a longtime sponsor of the
Olympic Games, and, next month will participate as a sponsor of the Working
Woman Congress 500 to be held in Washington D.C.
