Business Communicators Get the Inside Scoop on Government Communications and PR at May 5 IABC/Detroit Senior Communicators Networking Program

    DETROIT, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Network at IABC/Detroit's Senior
Communicators Event with seasoned professionals and hear what's involved with
PR in Lansing and Washington, DC.
    Detroit PR pros, John Bailey and Mary Zatina will share their tips on
growing your network and the importance of maintaining valuable relationships.
Zatina will talk about what happens when Government Communications and PR
intersect.  Bailey also will share how public relations attributed to his
mention during President George W. Bush's address to Michigan.

    About John J. Bailey
    IABC/Detroit named John Bailey its Communicator of the Year in 2002.  He
earlier received the PRSA-Detroit Chapter's 1999 Distinguished Achievement
Award and in 1998, he received a "Creatives for a Cure" career achievement
award for his ongoing work with students and new professionals entering the
public relations field.  With more than 30 years of experience in the public
relations field, he has performed all aspects of industry activities as he
worked his way from entry-level account staffer to president of his own
$3 million + agency.  Bailey has served clients at the state, regional and

    About Mary A. Zatina
    An outstanding alumna of the Dominican High School Class of 1978, Mary
Zatina was selected by Crain's Detroit Business as one of its "40 Under 40"
honorees in the 1990s.  In her current position, she manages all functions in
the Office of the First Gentleman of Michigan, including project coordination,
speaking engagements and public image.  She oversees the Governor's Employee
Communications to 55,000 State workers, manages numerous special projects with
the Governor's Office and oversees activities, operations and staff of the
Lansing and Mackinac Island Gubernatorial Residences, supervising a staff
of 12.
    Throughout her career, Zatina has worked at the Central Business District
Association and Foundation, WDET-FM Public Radio and WTVS/Channel 56.  In
1991, Zatina joined MCN Energy Group moving up the ranks to director of
Corporate Communications.  After leaving MCN, she became senior vice
president, director of Corporate Communications and Strategy for Campbell
Ewald.  Following the election of Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, Mary was
tapped to become Chief of Staff of the Office of the First Gentleman, Daniel
G. Mulhern.
