HOUSTON, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of Anadarko
Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC) has elected John N. Seitz to the position of
President and Chief Operating Officer of the Houston-based independent oil and
gas company. He currently serves as Executive Vice President-Exploration and
Production.

In his new position, Seitz will continue to oversee the company's
exploration and production operations in the U.S. and overseas. He will
continue to report to Robert J. Allison, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer.
"John's promotion to this position reflects his many contributions to
Anadarko's success over the past several years," said Allison. "He has played
an instrumental role in growing Anadarko's oil and gas reserves and production
as we have expanded into new play areas in Algeria, Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico
and other premier hydrocarbon basins."
Seitz is a native of Pennsylvania and holds an undergraduate degree in
Geology from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in Geology
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He joined Anadarko in 1977 and has
served in a variety of management and staff functions related to exploration.
Seitz was named Vice President-Exploration and Production Operations in 1989
and was promoted to Senior Vice President-Exploration in 1996. In 1997, he
was named Executive Vice President-Exploration and Production and was elected
to Anadarko's Board of Directors.
In 1996, Seitz completed the Wharton Advanced Management Program at the
University of Pennsylvania. He is certified as a Petroleum Geologist and is a
member of several professional organizations, including the American
Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Geological Society of America, the
American Institute of Professional Geologists, and the Houston Geological
Society. Seitz also serves on the Upstream Committee of the American
Petroleum Institute.
Seitz and his wife, Domenica, and their two children reside in Houston.
