ALPHARETTA, Ga., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Bank of
Commerce (NBC) has purchased a free-standing branch building -- still under
construction -- that will become its headquarters in metropolitan Atlanta.
The building is located in Alpharetta at Highway 9 and Windward Parkway.
NBC purchased the partially completed branch from Wachovia Corporation
(NYSE: WB), which halted construction as a result of its merger with First
Union Corporation.
"Our first traditional branch in metro Atlanta came much sooner than we
expected," said Cliff Davis, NBC Atlanta region president. "The sudden
availability of a prime location inspired us to act quickly." He said the new
branch is scheduled to open in August.
The new headquarters branch in Alpharetta will offer the same services as
NBC's in-store branches -- including mortgages, investments, commercial
banking and safety deposit boxes -- plus have the added convenience of drive-
through service and a drive-up ATM. A Sales Center located in the lobby of
the new headquarters branch will greet customers and provide express service.
The branch also will house NBC's retail division managers, private banking
specialists and wealth management specialists, who all work closely with the
in-store branches region-wide.
"NBC usually opens several in-store branches when we come into a market,
followed by traditional bank branch openings later on, using a 'hub and spoke'
strategy," Davis said. "The speed of this acquisition -- opening up our first
hub just months after our first in-store branch -- shows our commitment to the
Atlanta market."
On April 28, NBC opened the first of 30 planned in-store branches in
Kroger supermarkets in Atlanta. The branch is located at the new Kroger store
at 1160 Moreland Avenue, Atlanta.
Following quickly on the heels of this grand opening is the opening of
nine additional branches on May 13. All of the branches are located in metro
Atlanta, Roswell, Dunwoody, Acworth and Cumming. The branches will be full
service, offering a complete range of financial services for individuals and
businesses, and will be open at extended hours six days a week.
