Web Site Provides Free Directory of Lower Manhattan Retail Businesses
DAYTON, Ohio, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- LexisNexis(TM), the global leader
in legal, news and business information services, today announced the
availability of a free online directory of Lower Manhattan retail businesses.
The devastating effects of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World
Trade Center have created a $54 billion hole in the economy of Lower
Manhattan, according to the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce.
More than 100,000 jobs have been displaced and 15 million square feet of
commercial property destroyed. The number of jobs lost represents 77 percent
of Lower Manhattan's economy.
LexisNexis is helping to patch this hole by spurring economic growth in
Lower Manhattan. Anyone can visit http://www.lexisnexis.com/shopmanhattan to
find a complimentary business locator of retail shops of interest in Lower
Manhattan.
"Continuing our effort to help customers recover from the devastating
effects of September 11, the Shop Lower Manhattan site provides accurate,
detailed information about retail businesses located in Lower Manhattan when
this information is needed most," said Lou Andreozzi, president and CEO, North
American Legal Markets, LexisNexis.
The idea for the free business directory came from Rissa Peckar, library
director for the law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, whose offices are
located in Lower Manhattan. Employees from LexisNexis then volunteered their
time and expertise to create the site.
Visitors to the Shop Lower Manhattan Web site can perform an online search
of D&B information for a specific type of business, be it a clothing store,
theater or restaurant, by using keywords. Or, visitors can search based on the
type of business they want to locate. The site provides a list of retail
businesses that fits the user's criteria, including the address and telephone
number.
