The Business of Technology -- Ideas & Innovation is the theme for MHTA's
7th annual Spring Conference. The focus will be on lessons learned the hard
way and hot issues facing technology companies. Executives will share stories
of what worked ... but also what didn't work. In addition to cutting-edge
keynotes and panel sessions, attendees can walk through the expo area to
network and mingle with participating companies.
General Sessions include:
The Business of Technology: Lessons Learned
This session will showcase a variety of Minnesota companies who have
experiences to share -- from starting a business to growing an existing
business, even selling or deciding to go out of business. Panelists will be a
cross-section of companies who have sustained business through the tough
economy, been acquired, or shut their doors. They will share advice on what
does/doesn't work as well as strategies to consider or avoid as they plan and
develop their businesses.
Panel: Chris Heim, CEO, HighJump Software; Robert Olson, Chairman of the
Board, President & CEO, Stellent; and Bruce Lach, CEO, Bluestem/Firebrand, and
Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly
Outsourcing/Offshore: National Perspective and Panel Discussion Panel
The hot trend of offshore outsourcing & traditional outsourcing comes as
no surprise, especially when companies claim to save 50% on labor costs. These
cost savings and other benefits may be too good to be true. This panel will
explore the advantages, disadvantages, savings, hidden costs and surprises
that show up when it comes to outsourcing. Come hear from industry leaders who
have significant experience with outsourcing.
Panel: This panel will be moderated by Phil Bond, U.S. Undersecretary for
Technology, Department of Commerce. Panelists include representatives from
CGI, Digital River, IBM, and Unisys.
Into the Unknown ... Leadership Lessons
Presenter: Jack Uldrich, president of NanoVeritas Group, a consultancy
that focuses on helping businesses, venture capitalists, and governments
understand, evaluate, prepare for, and profit from nanotechnology. Uldrich,
the noted business author of The Next Big Thing is Really Small, on
nanotechnology, has a new book, The Leadership Lessons of Lewis and Clark,
which came out in March. Their "lessons learned" will inspire business leaders
to lead their teams on new adventures of great discovery and success.
Breakout Sessions include:
-- Innovation -- Thoughts from National Research Leaders
-- Leadership Lessons Learned -- Stories by CEOs
-- Sales & Marketing -- Qualifications & Complex Sale
-- Ideation Workshop with IDEO
-- Obtaining and Retaining the Talent You Need
-- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
