HOUSTON, May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reliant Energy today announced
two new Houston-area plans that offer customers discounts and protection
from rising energy prices.
Reliant Energy's 2006 Secure Plan with summer savings provides
Houston-area customers with price security through the end of 2006 and a
discount during the hottest months of the year. The new offer is available
starting May 17. Benefits include:
* Savings of 7 percent off Reliant Energy's price to beat (PTB) for an
average customer during months of June through September 2006;
* Price security through the end of the year, even if hurricanes or
other market conditions drive up the cost of natural gas and
electricity;
* Potential for continued discounts in October, November and December;
* No monthly customer charge;
* No seasonal price adjustments;
* No enrollment or cancellation fees.
"Customers who enroll in our new 2006 Secure Plan will get great
savings during the hot summer months, as well as protection from rising
energy prices throughout the hurricane season and the rest of 2006," said
Glen Stancil, vice president, Houston Residential Marketing. "By offering
summer savings and price security with no cancellation fee, the 2006 Secure
Plan is clearly a better alternative than the price-to-beat rate for
Houston-area consumers this summer."
For qualified customers looking for longer-term price security, Reliant
will begin offering the 2007 Secure Plan on May 6. This plan, including a
$25 enrollment bonus, will provide savings of 5 percent compared to Reliant
Energy's price to beat through the end of 2007. Pricing for this plan will
only vary in the event of regulatory or legal changes.
"With the addition of these new plans, we now have offers that should
appeal to every consumer," said Stancil. "We have discounts available with
terms ranging from less than one year to three years. And, we'll continue
to create new plans to meet the needs of our customers."
Among the products that Reliant Energy currently offers in the Houston
area is a competitively priced, 100 percent wind, renewable product. In
addition, the company's innovative One-Year Secure Plan with Heat Relief is
available through May 31. This product offers 12-months of price security,
as well as a special "heat relief" feature that provides a $50 bill credit
if the average monthly high temperature exceeds the 10-year average high
for that month by two degrees Fahrenheit. A $50 bill credit translates into
a savings of 17 to 23 percent based on an average Houston-area customer's
summer bill.
