SEMI Presents the 2007 North American Government Leadership Award to Congressman George Miller

WASHINGTON, May 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SEMI today recognized
Representative George Miller (D-CA) with the industry's 2007 North American
Government Leadership Award. The SEMI North American Government Leadership
Award was established in 2004 to recognize policymakers in the United
States who have demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues and policies
that advance the development and growth of the U.S. semiconductor equipment
and materials industry.
The award, an encased 300mm semiconductor wafer, was presented to the
Congressman during a lunch on Capitol Hill attended by over 20 SEMI member
company executives. Recipients of the award are selected by the SEMI North
American Advisory Board, and the award is presented in conjunction with the
SEMI Washington Forum, the organization's annual executive conference in
Washington, DC.
"We are very happy to present the award to Chairman George Miller this
year," said Victoria Hadfield, president of SEMI North America. "He has
long been a strong ally in promoting math and science education so that we
can ensure that the United States has a qualified workforce to maintain our
technological leadership."
"SEMI was honored to have Chairman Miller attend our 2005 Washington
Forum dinner and meet with member company executives to discuss a range of
innovation policy priorities. He quickly demonstrated his leadership on
this issue when he helped draft the House Democrats' Innovation Agenda
shortly thereafter." Hadfield continued, "We appreciate Chairman Miller's
leadership to address critical innovation challenges facing our country and
for working so hard on this initiative."
Rep. Miller is the Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee.
He was a chief sponsor of the original No Child Left Behind Act.
Reauthorization of this landmark education reform legislation is one of his
committee's highest priorities for this Congress. Chairman Miller also
serves as a member of the House Democratic Leadership as the Chairman of
the House Democratic Policy Committee. He has represented the 7th district
of California since 1975.
