Dr. Duy-Loan Le, Senior Fellow, Texas Instruments to Deliver Keynote
'Keeping the Passion Alive'
BOULDER, Colo., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Workshop for Women in Design
Automation (WWINDA) will present a program on how women can keep the passion
alive during their careers during the 41st Design Automation Conference (DAC)
Monday, June 7, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Dr. Duy-Loan Le, senior fellow at Texas Instruments, will keynote the
workshop and discuss her experiences in a speech titled, "Career and Life
Drivers - Passion versus Ambition." Dr. Le will share her philosophy about
finding the passion and balance in work, family, and community.
Women in executive positions at electronic design automation (EDA),
semiconductor, and venture capital companies will offer their opinions in a
session titled, "Keeping the Passion Alive." Terri Timberman, senior vice
president of Human Resources at AMI Semiconductor, will moderate. Panelists
are: Joan L. Mitchell, IBM fellow at IBM Printing Systems Division; Mar
Hershenson, co-founder, Barcelona Design and consulting assistant professor at
Stanford University; Darlene Gerry, general counsel of AMI Semiconductor;
Deborah Saweuyer-Parks, president and chief executive officer of Homestead
Capital; and Margaret Paroski, M.D., dean of the University of Buffalo Medical
School and BioMedical Sciences.
Workshop Chair Ann Marie Rincon, engineering fellow at AMI Semiconductor,
says: "It's important for women to examine the drivers that lead to career
choices as we assess the impact of those choices on other aspects of our
lives. Are we choosing to do what we truly love or what other think is
important for us to achieve? Our panelists will discuss what drives their
choices, how they keep the passion alive in their careers, and how the pursuit
of their passions affects other people's perception of their success, as well
as their own."
As part of the program, the Marie R. Pistilli Women in EDA Achievement
Award will be presented to this year's winner, Dr. Mary Jane Irwin, A. Robert
Noll chair in Engineering in the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering of Pennsylvania State University. The award honors an individual
who has demonstrated a commitment to education, engineering development and
mentor other women and men in the field of electronics. The award, named for
former DAC organizer Marie R. Pistilli, is open to both males and females with
technical or non-technical backgrounds in industry or academia.
The Workshop for Women in Design Automation is open to all design
automation professionals regardless of gender. WWINDA registration is $50 for
members of ACM or IEEE and $75 for non-members. For more information
regarding registration, contact Angela Brantner at (303) 530-4333 or via email

processes. Attended by more than 10,000 developers, designers, researchers,
managers, and engineers from leading electronics companies and universities
around the world, DAC includes more than 150 exhibitors and offers a robust
technical program covering the electronics industry's hottest trends.
The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing
Machinery/Special Interest Group on Design Automation (ACM/SIGDA), the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers/Circuits and Systems Society
(IEEE/CASS), and the Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDA Consortium).
