Smiths Aerospace Goes Live with PTC Windchill

Supplier in Global Aerospace & Defense Industry Aims to Strengthen Tier One
                      Position With Leading PLM Solution

NEEDHAM, Mass., May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the
Product Development Company(TM), announced today that Smiths Aerospace, the
leading transatlantic aerospace equipment manufacturer, has successfully
deployed PTC Windchill(R) solutions to 900 employees. Smiths Aerospace holds
key positions in the supply chains of all major military and civil aircraft
and engine manufacturers, producing integrated solutions for aircraft systems,
actuators and electronic control systems.
Smiths Aerospace has grown dramatically in recent years through a
combination of strategic acquisitions and major program wins. To fortify its
position as a leading tier one supplier in the global aerospace and defense
industry, Smiths Aerospace chose PTC's Windchill solutions for product
lifecycle management (PLM). With Windchill's integral PLM architecture, Smiths
Aerospace can now quickly assemble virtual corporate teams of product experts
to compete more effectively on new programs.
Robert Mills, Chief Information Officer for Smiths Aerospace Electronic
Systems, stated "The deployment of PTC's products will assure that continuous
improvement in our ability to collaborate and reductions in our time-to-market
will be sustained. Windchill is enabling us to leverage the full force of our
global expertise, regardless of where it resides, to increase our product
innovation while driving greater efficiencies in our business.
"We believe that our partnership with PTC, combining world class business
processes with world class collaboration technology, will help to position us
as the first choice for our customers and will fuel continuous improvement for
the foreseeable future," Mills said.
"Smiths understands the value of product lifecycle management and has a
strategic commitment to growth through collaboration with their partners,"
said Paul Cunningham, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales at PTC. "Our
experience in the aerospace industry and others has shown us that companies
who leverage their product development processes and focus on how they can
better work with their partners are able to most effectively identify and
realize value from their product development process."
PTC helped Smiths Aerospace replace a legacy Sherpa system with a modern
Windchill solution for product structure management, change management, and
configuration management. In addition, PTC Global Services is helping Smiths
Aerospace to design collaboration strategies and processes that will enable
joint development activities with prime contractors on major commercial
aircraft programs and among Smiths Aerospace's globally distributed business
units.
"PTC's experience in aerospace and the global implementations of their
solutions in our industry was an important factor in our decision," said Ric
Prince, Smiths Aerospace Program Manager for deployment of PTC products. "The
pilot project we conducted in early 2003 demonstrated how quickly we could be
looking at ROI and delivering results.
"We deliver high value to the aircraft platform," Prince continued. "Our
ability to rapidly and efficiently integrate parts is what sets us apart from
our competitors. Windchill collaboration capabilities allow us to project
manage programs with our customers while the Windchill product data management
capabilities facilitate the product and process information control that is
critical to our business."
