NEW YORK, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Nationally syndicated radio personality
Don Imus and Infinity Broadcasting's Sports Radio 66 WFAN will put the power
of radio to its best use in a 281/2- hour Radiothon. This year's event will
again support the Tomorrows Children's Fund (TCF), the CJ Foundation for
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and The Imus Ranch. To insure that the
critical work of these organizations continues, WFAN will host its 15th Annual
Radiothon, on Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7.
On Thursday, IMUS IN THE MORNING will be heard in a special extended
program from 5:30 - 11:00AM live from the New York Stock Exchange. MAC & SID
(Jody McDonald and Sid Rosenberg) followed by MIKE & THE MAD DOG (Mike
Francesa and Chris Russo), will broadcast their shows live from the Museum of
TV & Radio at 25 West 52nd Street in Manhattan. The Radiothon shifts to the
Mets vs. San Francisco game live with play-by-play announcers Howie Rose and
Gary Cohen. STEVE SOMERS wraps up the first day of the Radiothon live from
the WFAN Studios from 10:30PM - 1:00AM.
On Friday, May 7, JOE BENIGNO (1:00 - 5:30AM) will be live from the WFAN
studio. IMUS IN THE MORNING (5:30 - 10:00AM) will close the Radiothon live
from the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J.
Imus is heard in more than 90 markets nationwide and is also broadcast on
MSNBC. The YES Network will air the MIKE AND THE MAD DOG program live on
Thursday, May 6.
Since its inception in 1990, the annual Sports Radio 66 WFAN Radiothon has
raised more than $25 million to benefit these worthwhile not-for-profit
organizations. In addition to research and counseling, these funds have
provided a home for these organizations, The Don Imus-WFAN Pediatric Center
for Tomorrows Children at Hackensack University Medical Center, which opened
in 1994, and the David Jurist Research Center.
TCF provides the resources necessary to support children stricken with
cancer and serious blood disorders, as well as to provide funding for a cure.
The CJ Foundation for SIDS is a nationwide voluntary health organization
dedicated to recognizing the special needs of the SIDS community through
funding research, support service grants and providing educational and public
awareness programs. The CJ Foundation for SIDS was founded in 1993 by
Infinity Broadcasting President and COO, Joel Hollander and his wife, Susan,
after the death of their daughter, Carly Jenna. In March of 1998, Don Imus,
his wife, Deirdre, and his brother, Fred, established the Imus Ranch in
Reader's Digest, N.M. The ranch provides TCF patients and SIDS siblings the
experience of life on a working cattle ranch.
In addition to the live broadcasts, WFAN's Radiothon is supported by
hundreds of volunteers who staff the donation phones, keep track of the
pledges, and more. The New York Mercantile Exchange will once again be the
technical and volunteer hub by hosting the volunteer center and telephone
bank.
There are a number of ways listeners can support WFAN's Radiothon 2004 --
