SIOUX FALLS, S.D., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In conjunction with
IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries, Raven Industries, Inc.
(Nasdaq: RAVN) today announced that its Electronics Systems Division has
successfully completed IPC's beta test of its Certification for Restriction
of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Lead Free Electronics Assembly Process
Capability Program. Raven's Sioux Falls facility is one of two worldwide to
receive this certification by IPC.
RoHS (EU Directive 2002/95/EC) places restrictions on the use of
certain hazardous substances in electrical or electronic equipment sold or
used in the European Union after July 1, 2006. These substances are lead,
mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and
polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
Raven's Division Vice-president and General Manager, David Bair,
explained that the disciplines required to manage lead-free manufacturing
built on its tradition of high-quality and documented process controls.
Raven completed and passed a rigorous series of steps, including a thorough
examination of its RoHS lead free assembly processes which culminated in a
two day audit of the site's assembly operations.
"IPC is excited that Raven Industries has successfully completed the
program. Their participation confirms that whether you are a large or a
small company, the audit certification program allows you to benchmark your
processes and to judge your capabilities to meet the drive to RoHS lead
free assembly," John Kania, IPC director of assembly industry programs,
explained.
"The IPC certification audit program has a long name but a simple goal
and that is to audit an electronics assembly facility -- whether it's an
original equipment manufacturer or electronics manufacturing services
company -- to determine if the company's facility is capable of producing
product to meet the lead free requirements of the European Union's RoHS
directive," Kania said.
