Transkaryotic Therapies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TKTX) today announced the appointment
of Mr. Gregory D. Perry as the company's new Vice President, Finance and Chief
Financial Officer, effective May 27, 2003. In this role, Mr. Perry will have
overall responsibility for all financial matters of the company and will
report directly to Michael J. Astrue, TKT's President and Chief Executive
Officer.

quality organizations. His global operating experience and his strong
operational finance skills will contribute tremendously as we grow our

Mr. Perry joins TKT from PerkinElmer, Inc. where he most recently served
as Senior Vice President, Finance and Business Development, Life Sciences. In
this position he was responsible for the financial management of PerkinElmer's
$500 million drug discovery tools and genetic disease screening business, as
well as information technology and business development activities. Prior to
joining PerkinElmer, Mr. Perry was Chief Financial Officer of the Automotive
Aftermarket Products Group at Honeywell where he played a major role in
rebuilding their finance team and successfully closed the acquisition of
Prestone Products, the largest acquisition by Honeywell at that time. During
a fourteen-year tenure at General Electric, Mr. Perry held numerous positions
of increasing responsibility in finance and business development, most
recently as Chief Financial Officer of GE Medical Systems, Europe,
headquartered in Paris, France. Mr. Perry, 42, received a B.A. in Economics
and Political Science from Amherst College.
