CSG(R) Data Mediation Offers New Ways to Process Customer Transactions by
Incorporating Data From Applications Enterprise-Wide
WASHINGTON, BILLING AND OSS WORLD 2004, May 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Leading global customer care and billing solutions provider CSG Systems
(Nasdaq: CSGS) today announced the latest release of CSG(R) Data Mediation,
the essential layer between a telecommunications service provider's network
and downstream systems that process the data required to realize revenue from
customer transactions.

In the newest release, CSG has further opened the architecture of its data
mediation product to go beyond traditional event and network traffic
management to active communication with applications throughout the
enterprise.
With the capability of advanced networks to offer more content and
data-driven services than ever before, service providers will need intelligent
data down to the customer transaction to help them adapt to customer
requirements. This data is often siloed in applications throughout the
enterprise that cannot exchange the information, making it difficult to reach
a real-time view of customer transactions.
By adding a set of open-standards based Application Programming Interfaces
(APIs) to the core mediation product, CSG has created a new value-add layer in
addition to standard mediation functions. Now service providers can use
mediation to populate records with real-time information from sources
throughout the enterprise before they are passed downstream, allowing
increasingly complex customer transactions to be processed more efficiently
and accurately. For example, CSG Data Mediation can pre-rate records,
populate records with customer-specific information or apply specific rules to
a record based on the content of the transaction.
"With real-time access to enterprise information, mediation can discover,
react and add value to the new world of business scenarios -- effectively
streamlining event management for our customers," said Darla Thompson, vice
president of product management for CSG's Global Software and Services
division. "This new open release will empower CSG's customers to go beyond
linear event and network traffic management to intelligent customer
transaction processing."
CSG Data Mediation now includes a new API set that allows the product to
communicate with applications throughout the enterprise, opening it to receive
and send dynamic updates to account information and to populate records with
information from other applications such as rating and content management. In
addition, CSG Data Mediation gives customers the ability to create their own
user-defined mediation processing and action functions, all without having to
modify the core product.
CSG has also added support for the newest version of the Oracle database
and enhanced the product's ability to handle records associated with WLAN and
PacketCable(TM) initiatives, adding additional support for the broadband
industry.
