New Genealogy Subscription Service Announced With 400 Million Records

BOULDER, Colo., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Pearl Street Software, developer of
the Family Tree Legends software and the popular GenCircles.com web site, is
thrilled to announce the Family Tree Legends Records Collection. The
Collection contains more than 400 million records including: birth, marriage,
and death indexes from most states, military records, land records, court and
probate records, biographies, cemetery transcriptions, and hundreds of books.
The Family Tree Legends Records Collection will take its place as one of the
five largest commercial genealogy subscription sites on the Internet and is
the first major genealogy subscription site to hit the scene in more than
three years.
President and CEO, Cliff Shaw, "We are so excited to be entering the
subscription market. The competition is really what got us here.
Subscription prices have continued to rise for several years now. Personally,
I don't feel like the existing services have improved enough to justify their
increase in cost. So many of our customers have expressed frustration about
the rising cost of genealogy data on the Internet. Some even say that they
just can't afford to do genealogy anymore, especially some of our users on
fixed incomes. In my mind, the genealogy subscription market has become
inflated because there's no competition to the existing services. We plan to
restore some healthy competition to the market and FAST!"
Pearl Street Software plans to invest heavily in this service, adding new
databases as quickly as possible. Shaw said, "We're just getting started.
400 million records is only the beginning. We will frequently be adding new
collections and features to enhance the value of our service." And value is
what Pearl Street Software is offering. The Records Collection, scheduled to
debut in June 2004 can now be purchased for an introductory price of $19.95
(regularly $29.95). The low price point is a calculated move by Pearl Street
Software. Shaw says, "Genealogists shouldn't be forced to pay hundreds of
dollars a year for access to records and data. You're going to see us going
after this market with a service that is better than the competition and at a
significantly better value."
The Records Collection does not require the Family Tree Legends software.
