Life After the NFL is the Good Life with a Positive Attitude and Pak Mail Centers of America

AURORA, Colo., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Football has been his passion ever
since he was a little kid playing defensive back in the Pop Warner league at 9
years old. Although his days on the professional playing field are history,
former Washington Redskins defensive back Tom Herter is now part of another
national team and racking up big scores.
First a player, then a coach, then an agent for the NFL, Tom asked himself
what's next? What does life after football look like to a veteran of the
sport? For Tom, it looks like being an entrepreneur, businessman, mentor,
leader and a man with the spirit and drive to make a difference.
While maintaining his connection to the world of football and professional
sports, Tom Herter's life path has led him in two interesting and distinct
directions. He has been involved with Pak Mail Centers of America, Inc. since
1993, and has recently become the area franchise developer for the state of
Texas. His aggressive franchise development plan is to eventually have 200
Pak Mail centers in Texas. What is so unique to his plan is that his target
franchise owners are those men who also seek life after professional sports.
Tom currently is searching for 3 locations for former professional athletes.
Second and certainly not less important, Tom Herter is also the founder of
"The Solid Rock All Pro Sports Team." Made up of 11 NFL alumni that travel to
high schools, colleges, churches, synagogues and other groups, they spread the
news of the good work of the NFL and the benefits of being involved with
sports. "Through focused discipline and academic practice, you can become all
that you set your goals and desire to become," says Herter. "Caring for
Kids," is the slogan of The Solid Rock All Pro Sports Team. As recognized
ambassadors of The National College Recruiting Association (NCRA), they
identify deserving student athletes that become prospects to receive NCRA
scholarships. Tom and his Solid Rock Team share the philosophy that "if you
help enough people get what they want, you'll always get what you want."
"My work gives me great joy. Being able to participate with those just
starting out on their athletic careers, and assisting my fellow professional
athletes find financial security and the right fit in owning their own Pak
Mail business, makes for a very rewarding life. To see a young athlete
receive the break he or she needs to set goals and have the means to achieve
them, is a dream come true," said Tom Herter.
Tom's life has not always looked like it does today. After living through
a history of personal adversity, Tom decided that something had to change. He
discovered a fellowship of support and now proudly admits that his life has
definitely taken a turn. He perceives life as more of a journey than a
destination and it is paying off for all the people he is able to touch and
help. "I've been on the mountain and in the valley, but I'm not going back to
the alley," says Tom. Never at a loss for just the appropriate metaphor, he
stated with a grin, "You can either be the steamroller or a part of the
pavement."
