Datastick Systems, Inc. reveals data-acquisition hardware and software plans for new ruggedized Palm Powered(TM) Meazura(TM) handheld from Aceeca Limited

Datastick, the top Palm OS(R) based data acquisition hardware and software
company, puts on a hard hat. Analog sensors plug into Datastick hardware
module; software displays measurements on the handheld.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Datastick Systems, Inc., a
leader in test and measurement hardware and software for handheld computers,
today revealed its plans to offer data acquisition modules for the new
Meazura(TM) ruggedized Palm Powered(TM) handheld that was announced yesterday
by PalmSource and Aceeca Limited Corporation of New Zealand at the PalmSource
Developer Conference in San Mateo. Datastick's announcement was made today at
the PalmSource Developer Conference by Steve Sabram, President and Chief
Technology Officer of Datastick.
Datastick's hardware products for the Meazura handheld include multi-
channel low- and high-speed analog data acquisition modules that plug into the
Meazura's proprietary MZIO(TM) expansion slot. Sensors are connected to the
Datastick modules, which will provide analog-to-digital conversion and signal
conditioning.
Measurements are then viewed on one of Datastick's Palm OS(R) software
products that display the sensor output in a variety of ways. Datastick
Connection displays measurements from up to four channels in real time in four
different views. Datastick Connection Plus adds alarms and level-sensitive
recording. Both packages provide linearization algorithms to compensate for
nonlinear sensors. Datastick Connection Pro software permits higher-speed data
acquisition in capture-and-review mode.
"Many of our customers wish to utilize sensors and our data acquisition
systems for test and measurement applications in harsh mobile environments,"
said Sabram. "The introduction of the rugged Meazura combined with Datastick
modules will enable us to meet their needs for measurements in tough
environments indoors and out. The new MZIO expansion modules were designed
with our customers' demanding environments in mind."
"At a time when companies are looking for more cost-effective data-
acquisition solutions, the Aceeca/Datastick combination is a powerful one-two
punch," added Michael Scandling, Datastick Vice President of Marketing. "It's
no fluke that our approach of using Palm OS handhelds as a basis for test and
measurement is gaining considerable momentum. The inherent versatility and
cost-savings of our modular approach is compelling to a large number of
industrial and scientific users. The addition of ruggedized units makes our
solution even more attractive to a broader number of customers."
"Since we first met with Datastick more than a year ago, we have been very
impressed with both their hardware and software," says Alex Topschij, Aceeca's
CEO. "It seemed that our two companies formed a natural fit. We're very happy
that Datastick Systems will be offering hardware and software for our new
Meazura handheld."
With Meazura, Aceeca is helping to create a new class of products called
Industrial Digital Assistants, or IDAs -- a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant)
designed to meet the needs of industrial users.
Datastick's systems enable individuals, governments, educational
institutions, and scientific groups to monitor conditions such as temperature,
pressure, vibration, moisture, salinity, acidity, etc., and provide mobile in-
the-field measurements for a wide range of uses, including automotive,
environmental, machine health, agriculture, and medical.
Datastick Systems, Inc., developed the first general-purpose data
acquisition hardware and software system for Palm(TM) handhelds in 1999, and
today is a leader in the design and development of cost-effective handheld
test and measurement products for Palm Powered handhelds for a broad range of
commercial, scientific, governmental, environmental and educational markets.
