First Comprehensive Information Source Empowering Developers, Testers and
Analysts to Rapidly Create Innovative J2EE and Web Services Business
Applications with Market-leading Solutions from Rational and IBM

SAN FRANCISCO, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At the IBM developerWorks
Live Conference, Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced that it has
collaborated with IBM to create an IBM knowledge center on the Rational
Developer Network(SM) (http://www.rational.net). The IBM knowledge center enables
developers, testers and analysts to simplify and accelerate the creation of
innovative Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Web Services business
applications.
The IBM knowledge center provides development teams with targeted
information, including articles, code and discussions that reflect the
experience and thought leadership of thousands of customers, as well as those
who create Rational products and IBM technologies.
J2EE and Web Services are powerful yet complex development subjects.
Today, too many J2EE development teams start with a blank slate and
unknowingly spend time on technical obstacles that others have overcome,
rather than on building great software.
The IBM knowledge center on the Rational Developer Network helps
developers, testers and analysts minimize the development challenges they face
every day by providing the first and only comprehensive, well-organized
knowledge source for individuals who want to build innovative J2EE
applications using market-leading products from Rational and IBM.
"The Rational Developer Network offers us a unique opportunity to provide
customers with targeted content that enables them to realize the power of the
combined software development solutions from IBM and Rational," said Dan
Galvan, Vice President, WebSphere Marketing and Partner Programs, IBM. "Both
IBM and Rational are committed to the continued development of IBM Workbench-
based tools and this new IBM knowledge center is a big step in ensuring
customer success with our joint solutions."
"Our goal with the IBM knowledge center is to bring 'Instant Knowledge' to
IBM and Rational customers by leveraging the wealth of experience of our
collective software engineers who work every day with customers developing
enterprise business applications," said Bryant Macy, vice president, Rational
Developer Network, Rational Software. "As we broaden and deepen the content
available for customers on the Rational Developer Network, we are working with
leading companies, such as IBM, to help us develop content of the highest
quality and relevance to our customers who are creating great software."
The Rational Developer Network is available to all Rational customers with
an active support contract.
This agreement is another deliverable in the long-standing relationship
between Rational and IBM. The two companies will continue to collaborate on
open, integrated J2EE solutions necessary to enable customers to increase the
speed, quality and predictability of their software development projects, and
simplify Web application development. Additional information on the
relationship between Rational and IBM is available at
