MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Commerce
Financial (NYSE: NCF) has been named a 2002 Dividend Achiever for increasing
its cash dividends every year for at least the past 10 years.  NCF company
records indicate the Memphis-based financial services company has increased
its dividend every year since 1975.  The annual list of Dividend Achievers is
compiled by Mergent, a New York City-based provider of global financial
information on publicly traded companies.
    "We are pleased for our shareholders who have experienced an 18.2 percent
compound annual growth rate in dividends and 23.4 percent annual total return
on NCF common stock over the past 10 years," said Ernest C. Roessler, NCF
chairman and chief executive officer.  Roessler noted that NCF has
significantly outperformed the S&P 500 in both categories over the past
decade.  During the past 10 years, the S&P 500 has experienced compound annual
growth in dividends of 2.6 percent and an annual total return of 12.9 percent.
    On April 24, 2002, National Commerce Financial announced its quarterly
cash dividend of $.15 per share, payable July 1, 2002, to shareholders of
record June 7, 2002.
