WAYNE, Pa., May 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Escalon Medical Corp.
(Nasdaq: ESMC) today announced that its Escalon Vascular Access subsidiary has
received positive feedback on the use of its redesigned Doppler Guided IV
Needle from a cancer center in a major hospital in Philadelphia. After an
initial evaluation period, the cancer center has placed its first order. The
PDAccess and its Doppler Guided IV Needle provide various benefits to the
clinician and patient, minimizing the need for multiple sticks and helping to
ensure central access to the intended vessel for infusion therapy.
Additionally, the use of the Doppler Guided Needle is very similar to the
clinician's traditional technique in accessing the veins of patients,
minimizing the learning curve.
"We are very pleased with the feedback we have received from clinical
nurses and their staff about using our product," commented Richard J. DePiano,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Clinical nurses are excited by our
Doppler Technology, which utilizes ultrasound for much easier targeting and
access to patients' veins. This is particularly helpful in the area of
oncology, where patients must have their veins accessed frequently due to
cancer and chemotherapy treatment plans. Based on our early results targeting
the oncology market, we will be expanding our focus to other cancer center
facilities in the Philadelphia and Mid-Atlantic region. Our strategy will
include training and educating clinicians onsite in the cancer center in the
use of our Doppler Guided Needles."
Mr. DePiano added, "The redesign of our Doppler Guided IV Needle is
expected to open many new market opportunities due to its flexibility in
application. Some of its current uses are radial access for heart procedures,
accessing arterial vessels to monitor blood pressures in critical care unit
and operating room settings, and for delivering various infusion therapies and
anesthetics. As part of our overall strategy for our Vascular Access
business, we will also continue to target other medical specialty areas that
would benefit from our proprietary technology while further filling the needs
of the oncology market. Medical specialties we feel would benefit from this
technology are cardiac, radiology, electro physiology, hematology, oncology,
anesthesia, infusion therapy teams, intensive care units, and the operating
room."
Escalon Vascular Access' new improved Doppler Guided IV Needle was well
received at its recent exhibition at the Oncology Nursing Society 27th Annual
Congress at the Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. from
April 18-21. The Congress experienced record attendance of over 6,000
professionals from the oncology and cancer care settings.
