Honeywell Partners With Habitat for Humanity to Help With Tsunami Relief

$500,000 donation will build 375 homes in India, 125 homes in Indonesia

AMERICUS, Ga., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Habitat for Humanity International
announced today that Honeywell has donated $500,000 to support expanded
tsunami relief in the Indian Ocean basin. Honeywell's contribution, made
through its Hometown Solutions program, will fund the construction of 375
homes in India and 125 homes in Indonesia.
Construction will begin shortly on the 375 "Honeywell Homes" in India,
starting with Habitat Building Centers and progressing to the states of Tamil
Nadu, Pondicherry and Kanyakumari. In Indonesia, the 125 "Honeywell Homes"
will be built in the devastated provinces of Medan and Aceh and the island of
Nias.
"Habitat and Honeywell have both worked in the Indian Ocean basin for a
number of years, and both have made a difference in peoples' lives there,"
said Paul Leonard, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity
International. "For 500 families, this generous donation means getting them
back on their feet, back into safe and decent shelter and another step closer
to a hopeful future."
"Honeywell is committed to helping the communities devastated by the
recent tsunami," said Tom Buckmaster, president of Honeywell Hometown
Solutions. "Partnering with Habitat for Humanity International will enable us
to leverage our expertise in housing and shelter to help those affected by
this tragedy and assist with rebuilding in India and Indonesia."
Habitat has set a goal to build up to 35,000 homes in the next two years
in the tsunami-ravaged region. The global organization will then work with
families to expand those homes and to build tens of thousands more in the
years ahead.
Honeywell Hometown Solutions focuses Honeywell's community outreach
efforts on three issues of vital importance to the company's communities:
Family Safety and Security; Housing and Shelter; and Science and Math
