IABC, PRSA, NAWBO members and others invited to attend gala evening
DETROIT, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Three women who have positively influenced
metro Detroit's business and cultural landscape will be feted at the annual
Women In Communications of Detroit's Matrix Awards at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May
23 at the Century Grille in the Gem Theater, 333 Madison Avenue, Detroit.
Sue Voyles of Logos Communications will receive the Headliner Award
recognizing her lifelong achievements as a WIC of Detroit member. Besides
serving clients in diverse industries, Sue is a part-time instructor at
Schoolcraft College, teaching online journalism and English composition
courses. She is also a certified instructional designer for General Motors
University, where she creates employee communications and training programs
for GM's Health Services staff. Sue is a past president of the Detroit
Chapter for the Association of Women In Communications and a current vice
chair. She is also on the National Association of Women Business Owners board
of directors.
Brenda Naomi Rosenberg will receive the Vanguard Award recognizing her
enrichment of the general quality of life as executive producer of "The
Children of Abraham Project." Brenda is also an interfaith peace advocate,
and founder of the Pathways to Peace Foundation. The "Children of Abraham
Project" demonstrates how performing arts can create social healing and break
down longstanding barriers of fear, hate and prejudice. Teenagers from war
torn countries attending the Seeds of Peace camp in Maine now use The Children
of Abraham model to stage productions in Palestine and Jerusalem. CBS picked
it up as a national special that aired Sunday, April 17, 2005.
Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Women Business
Owners/Excel's GirlBiz, will receive the Diamond Award for improving the
working conditions of women in the workplace. Within the broader workplace of
women entrepreneurs, NAWBO/Excel's GirlBiz takes advantage of seasoned
independent business women to grow new leaders for tomorrow's workforce by
engaging teen women in their own economic development. GirlBiz is dedicated
to introducing teen women to entrepreneurship and financial independence, to
help young women get started on the process of learning about business,
ownership, economic power and economic well being. JoAnn Gibson, executive
director of NAWBO/Excel's GirlBiz will be accepting the award.
The evening strolling dinner and awards gala includes cocktails and a
silent auction. 2005 Matrix Awards sponsors include DaimlerChrysler, Standard
Federal Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network and
Health Alliance Plan. Distinguished guest speaker is Anne Thompson, NBC News
chief financial correspondent and former Detroit TV reporter, who will share
her unique perspective on discerning credible journalism in a muddled media
landscape.
