Eton Corporation to Highlight Disaster Readiness and Partnership With
American Red Cross at Annual Red Cross Convention
PALO ALTO, Calif., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- As a new hurricane season
looms, the Eton Corporation today announced it will distribute 2,000 new,
self- powered radios to American Red Cross chapters throughout the country.
Eton's announcement underscores the importance of emergency preparedness
and reliable communications during times of crisis. The announcement came
as the American Red Cross began its annual convention in Washington, DC,
celebrating the American Red Cross's 125th anniversary.
"Disaster preparation is more important than ever. If you don't get
ready, you won't be ready," said Eton Corporation's CEO Esmail Hozour,
whose company manufactures a line of self-powered, multi-function emergency
radios licensed by the American Red Cross. "Survival is often more than
just making it through the first critical moments. Emergency preparedness
means also planning for the subsequent hours, days, weeks or even months.
We've got the technology and we're committed to getting it into the hands
of the people who need it most."
Although last year's record hurricane season is history, its effects
are not. Even as the victims of Katrina, Rita and Wilma continue to
struggle with recovery, a new hurricane season approaches. Meteorologists
predict 2006 will be another active year. We have already witnessed a
record devastating start to the tornado season.
In 2005, the Eton Corporation distributed 10,000 self-powered radios in
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, providing a free, first-class
communications link to thousands without electrical power.
Eton will be distributing 2,000 more American Red Cross branded radios
to chapter representatives at their national convention in Washington, DC.
These radios will help each local chapter better prepare for emergencies.
"We're delighted to help celebrate this milestone in such a meaningful
way," said Hozour. "Every American should take the steps recommended by the
Red Cross to get ready now, should disaster strike."
The American Red Cross recommendations include:
* Learning about emergency plans in your community, workplace and schools;
* Familiarizing yourself with nearby shelters and evacuation routes;
* Establishing a family meeting place and communication plan; and,
* Assembling an accessible supplies kit containing non-perishable food and
water, a flashlight and a hand-crank radio.
"The goal of the American Red Cross licensing program," says Joseph
Becker, Senior Vice President of Response and Preparedness for the American
Red Cross, "is to provide families with top-quality products and
information to help them stay safe, every day. The Red Cross recommends
that each household have a battery-powered or hand-crank radio to listen to
local TV, radio and NOAA all-hazards radio for vital information during a
crisis. Therefore we are thrilled to work with Eton to bring this
collection of first- class, non-power dependent radios to communities
across America."
