National Commerce Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: NCBC), previously known
as National Commerce Bancorporation, unveiled a new logo to complement its new
name and help convey the evolution of the company into a diversified financial
services provider. The new name became effective April 25, 2001.

"National Commerce Financial is much more than a typical bank," said
Ernest C. Roessler, president and chief executive officer, "and we wanted to
send that message loud and clear to Wall Street and all existing and
prospective shareholders. The new logo helps strengthen that message."

All of National Commerce Financial's subsidiaries, including National Bank
of Commerce, Central Carolina Bank and First Market Bank have maintained their
existing names and logos.
