ZEELAND, Mich., May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For the ninth
consecutive year and the tenth time overall, Gentex Corporation, the
world's leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the
worldwide automotive industry, has been named a General Motors Supplier of
the Year. The award was presented to Gentex Chairman and CEO Fred Bauer
during ceremonies at GM's Vehicle Engineering Center at the General Motors
Technical Center on April 29.
The Supplier of the Year award recognizes companies for their overall
business performance in providing GM with world-class parts and services.
Gentex supplies GM with interior and exterior auto-dimming mirrors,
which automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles
approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors
become, making nighttime driving safer. Many of the mirrors also house
additional electronic features, such as compass and temperature displays,
microphones, high-beam headlamp control systems, and LED turn signals.
"We consider Gentex Corporation to be a role model for all suppliers.
They are recognized as a GM Supplier of the Year because they exceeded our
expectations in 2005," said Bo Andersson, vice president, GM Global
Purchasing and Supply Chain. "Gentex is one of the best companies in the
world and we thank them for their hard work and commitment to helping make
GM vehicles the best in the world."
"We continue to value the relationship we have developed with General
Motors," said Gentex CEO Fred Bauer. "General Motors is a long-term
customer, and continues to offer our auto-dimming mirrors and other Gentex
technologies on many of their vehicles -- from the entry level to the
luxury lines. We are honored to receive this recognition from them and look
forward to our continuing association."
The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992.
Winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing,
engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on
supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year,
General Motors honored 85 suppliers for their excellence throughout 2005.
