Join Board of Chicago Securities Brokerage Firm
CHICAGO, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- EVEREN Capital Corporation (NYSE: EVR)
stockholders elected three new members to the company's board of directors at
EVEREN's annual meeting of stockholders today, bringing the total number of
directors to nine.
Assuming the newly created directorships on the EVEREN board are: Donald
P. Jacobs, dean of the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at
Northwestern University; Samuel K. Skinner, former president of the
Commonwealth Edison Company and its holding company, Unicom Corporation; and
Donna F. Tuttle, president of Korn Tuttle Capital Group, a Los Angeles
investment consulting firm.
EVEREN Capital Corporation stockholders also re-elected Chairman of the
Board and Chief Executive Officer James R. Boris and President and Chief
Operating Officer Stephen G. McConahey to new terms on the board. In
addition, the four outside directors re-elected at the annual meeting were:
William T. Esrey, chairman and chief executive officer of Sprint Corporation;
Jack Kemp, co-director of Empower America; Homer J. Livingston, Jr., former
chief executive officer of The Chicago Stock Exchange; and William C.
Springer, executive vice president of H.J. Heinz Company.
Jacobs became dean of the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in
1975 and was named the Gaylord Freeman Distinguished Professor of Banking in
1979. His other directorships include: Unicom Corporation, The First
National Bank of Chicago, Hartmarx Corporation, Security Capital Industrial
Trust, Unocal Corporation and Whitman Corporation.
Prior to joining Commonwealth Edison as president in 1993, Skinner was
general chairman of the Republican National Committee. Before that, he served
as chief of staff to President Bush and previously was Secretary of
Transportation. Skinner also is a director of ANTEC Corporation, The LTV
Corporation, Midwest Express Holdings, Inc. and Union Pacific Resources Group,
Inc.
Tuttle, president of Korn Tuttle Capital Group since 1992, formerly was
chairman and chief executive officer of Ayer Tuttle, the western division of
international advertising agency NW Ayer. Before that she served as Deputy
Secretary of Commerce during the Reagan Administration. Her other
directorships include Hilton Hotels Corporation and Phoenix Duff & Phelps
Corporation.
In other action at the EVEREN Capital Corporation annual meeting,
stockholders ratified the board's appointment of Deloitte & Touche LLP as the
company's independent accounting firm for the year ending Dec. 31, 1998.
Deloitte & Touche has been EVEREN's independent accounting firm since October
1995.
