WICHITA, Kan., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Aircraft's Beechjet 400A
and Hawker 800 series were the most popular airplanes among all new fractional
aircraft owners in 2000, according to Aviation Research Group/US (ARG/US), an
aviation market research firm.
The Cincinnati, Ohio-based company gathered registration data provided to
the Federal Aviation Administration by the four leading aircraft fractional
ownership companies. The data shows 27 new and pre-owned Beechjet 400A light
jets were sold in 2000, tops among all aircraft models. Second, with 19.94
new and pre-owned units sold, was the Hawker 800 series of mid-size business
jets.
"The Beechjet and the Hawker have been customer favorites for years, and
that's now being reflected in the fractional marketplace," said Hansel Tookes,
chairman and CEO of Raytheon Aircraft. "The Hawker 800XP is the world's best-
selling mid-size business jet and has the largest cabin in its class, while
the Beechjet offers passenger comfort unequaled in any other light jet."
The fractional aircraft concept was created in 1986, but the industry has
experienced its most rapid growth in the past eight years -- growing from 24
aircraft and 89 shareowners in 1993 to more than 500 aircraft and 3,700 owners
today. Raytheon Aircraft's fractional ownership company, Raytheon Travel Air,
has followed that pattern, expanding from 13 aircraft and 42 owners in
December of 1997 to 101 aircraft and more than 740 owners today. The Travel
Air fleet includes Hawker 800XPs, Beechjet 400As, King Air B200s and
Challenger 601s.
Raytheon Aircraft, a subsidiary of Raytheon Company, designs,
manufactures, markets and supports jet, turboprop and piston-powered aircraft
for the world's commercial, military and regional airline markets. It had
revenues of $3.2 billion in 2000.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB)
is a global technology leader in defense, government and commercial
electronics, and business and special mission aircraft.
