All-Digital Fiber Optic Network for High-Speed Data and Internet Access
Now Available to Idaho Businesses
BOISE, Idaho, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric Lightwave, Inc. (ELI)
(Nasdaq: ELIX), an integrated communications provider, today announced the
completion of a state-of-the-art switching facility that will deliver
competitive local and long distance telephone service to Boise-area business
customers.
In addition, ELI recently completed a fiber optic network in Boise that
will provide a host of other telecommunications services including ISDN and
Frame Relay for high speed Internet and data access, videoconferencing and
prepaid services.
"Our all-digital, all-fiber optic network brings an alternative to Boise
businesses as a one-stop telecommunications solution for all of their
communications needs, from local and long distance telephone services to
Internet and data access capabilities," said Alan Lawrence, ELI's Boise
general manager. "Now Boise businesses can utilize one of the nation's best
Internet values for reliability and speed, as well as quality local and long
distance telephone services -- all from one integrated communications
company."
In addition to the central switching facility, ELI has constructed a fiber
optic network of 32 route miles, a total investment of nearly $15 million in
the Boise area. The company plans to install an additional 60 route miles of
fiber optic cable in Idaho by the end of the year. A long haul route that
will tie Boise into the rest of the network, including a link to Portland and
Los Angeles, is also under construction.
ELI first received authority from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission in
February 1997 to provide interexchange long distance and private line services
to businesses with six or more lines in four Idaho counties: Ada, Canyon,
Boise and Elmore. ELI's expansion into Idaho also means expanded employment
for the region. Currently, the company employs more than 14 people in the
Boise area, with plans to increase staffing to more than 20 by year end.
"Equally important," said Lawrence "is that the products and services we
provide are part of a healthy infrastructure that can attract new business to
the area."
In addition to Boise, ELI also offers competitive telecommunications
services in five other markets: Salt Lake City, Utah; Sacramento, Calif.;
Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash., Phoenix, Ariz. and their respective
surrounding areas.
